Quick answer
Boiler finance is a credit agreement with a lender that pays for your installation, which you then repay in monthly instalments. Promotional 0% agreements charge no interest, so you repay only the cash price over a set term. Interest-bearing agreements spread payments over longer and cost more overall. All finance is subject to status, credit checks and the lender's terms — nobody can guarantee approval in advance.
Boilers fail without warning, and almost nobody has the replacement cost sitting ready. Finance is a practical answer to that, provided you understand exactly what you are agreeing to.
How it works in practice
- 1You get a fixed installation price so the amount being financed is known and does not change later.
- 2You choose a deposit and a repayment term.
- 3You apply to the lender, who carries out affordability and credit checks.
- 4If approved, the lender pays for the installation and you repay them monthly.
0% versus interest-bearing
| Promotional 0% | Interest-bearing | |
|---|---|---|
| Total repaid | The cash price, nothing more | More than the cash price |
| Term | Usually shorter | Usually longer |
| Monthly payment | Higher | Lower |
| Suits | Those who can meet a higher monthly figure | Those who need the smallest monthly payment |
What "subject to status" means
It means the lender decides, based on credit history and affordability. Neither we nor any installer can promise approval, a specific rate or a specific term before an application is assessed. Be wary of anyone who implies otherwise.
Before you sign, check
- The total amount repayable and the APR
- The term and the exact monthly payment
- Whether a deposit is required
- Whether you can settle early and what that costs
- What happens if you miss a payment
- That the installation price is fixed, not an estimate

When to call a professional
Safe homeowner checks stop at pressure gauges, radiator valves, controls and visible pipework. Anything involving gas, combustion, the boiler casing, the flue or internal components is work for a Gas Safe registered engineer. If you smell gas, follow the appropriate emergency gas safety guidance and do not attempt to work on the appliance.

Frequently asked questions
Does applying affect my credit file?
Lenders carry out credit checks as part of an application, and those can be recorded. Ask the lender whether an initial check is a soft search before you proceed.
Can I pay a deposit to reduce the monthly cost?
Usually yes — a larger deposit reduces the amount borrowed and therefore the monthly payment.
Is finance available on repairs and servicing?
Finance is normally arranged for installations rather than small works. Ask us and we'll tell you what applies to your job.
